| Maiya
Tanaka,
Age 17, has been playing golf for 6 years and currently ranked #2
in San Diego Jr. Golf.
Maiya
first contacted me over a year ago. At the time, she was disappointed
with her ball striking and distance. After reviewing her swing on
my video computer, it was clear to see why. Maiya was continually
dropping her upper body at the start of the downswing. This caused
her left arm to have no room to extend at impact, resulting in a
weak impact position. (The picture to the left shows this.)
To
improve her impact position, I explained that Maiya needed to physically
strengthen her upper body through a new workout regime. This along
with diligent practice would enable her to make the technical changes
needed to correct her weak impact position. The picture on the right
illustrates that through hard work, Maiya has significantly improved
her impact position.
The
next generation of golfers will be an entirely new breed of individuals
that will be mentally, physically and technically superior to others
in the past. In order for these individuals to advance to the next
level and achieve their goals, whether it is to play college-level
golf or join the pro ranks, requires determination, dedication and
a well laid-out plan.
